Tee Recommendations by Fit and Vibe: Which T-Shirt Is Actually Right for You?

The best T-shirt is not the one with the highest rating, the heaviest fabric or the logo you see most often. It is the one that solves the problem you have today.

Maybe you need a soft everyday tee that disappears under a jacket. Maybe you want a heavyweight shirt that creates its own silhouette. Maybe you want a graphic to express something you do not feel like explaining. Those are different jobs, and one shirt cannot perform all of them equally well.

This guide compares several widely available options—including the Gildan Softstyle 64000 used by Revengeof—without pretending that our shirt is right for everyone. We would rather help you make a good decision than sell you the wrong tee.

A personal note: sometimes the message comes first

When I started putting Revengeof designs on shirts, I was not trying to create the heaviest or most expensive tee. I wanted the message to be what people remembered, while the shirt remained comfortable enough for everyday life.

I wore and washed the Gildan Softstyle 64000 myself instead of judging it only from specifications. So far, I have not noticed a meaningful difference in its fit or feel after washing. That does not mean every shirt, color or washing routine will behave identically, but it confirmed what matters to me: the shirt should be easy to wear and quiet enough to let the message speak.

There are days when you dress to look polished. There are also days when you want your clothes to say what you are not ready to explain. On those days, the message may matter more than whether the shirt is the heaviest or most luxurious option available. But emotion should not excuse a disappointing product. The design may create the desire; the garment still has to suit your preferred fit, climate and daily life.

Quick tee recommendations

If you only want the short answer, start here.

What you want A suitable starting point Why Think twice if…
Soft, affordable everyday graphic tee Gildan Softstyle 64000 Lightweight ring-spun fabric, familiar modern-classic fit and smooth print surface You expect thick, boxy streetwear structure
Soft, light and somewhat more tailored Bella+Canvas 3001 Lightweight combed and ring-spun cotton with side seams You dislike light fabric or want a relaxed heavyweight body
Relaxed, faded and substantial Comfort Colors 1717 Garment-dyed heavyweight fabric with a lived-in appearance You live in heat, prefer a smooth clean finish or want minimal bulk
More substantial regular-fit blank AS Colour Staple 5001 Midweight combed cotton, side seams and a clean regular shape Your priority is the lowest possible price
Smooth undecorated basic Uniqlo Supima Cotton Accessible retail basic with a smooth, refined hand You want a graphic or message rather than a plain supporting piece
Contemporary oversized basic Uniqlo AIRism Cotton Oversized Relaxed silhouette and smooth performance-oriented feel You want the feel of a conventional all-cotton tee

These are starting points, not universal winners. Availability, fabric composition and measurements can vary by color, country and seller.

First, decide what “suitable” means to you

Online shopping cannot let you feel the fabric or try three sizes in a fitting room. A useful recommendation therefore should not promise a perfect fit. It should help you reduce uncertainty.

Before comparing brands, answer these five questions.

1. Should the tee follow your body or create a silhouette?

  • A slim or tailored fit follows the torso and works naturally under overshirts and jackets.
  • A regular fit gives everyday ease without becoming the main visual feature.
  • A relaxed fit adds room through the body and sleeves.
  • A boxy fit uses width, shoulder position, sleeve length and often a shorter body to create a deliberate shape.
  • An oversized fit is designed with larger proportions; it is not always the same as buying a regular shirt two sizes larger.

Sizing up can add unwanted body length without producing the shoulders or sleeves of a true oversized cut. Compare garment measurements, not just the size letter.

2. Do you want softness or structure?

Fabric weight strongly affects how a tee behaves.

  • Lightweight: breathable, easy to layer and more likely to drape against the body.
  • Midweight: a balance between softness and shape retention.
  • Heavyweight: more opaque and structured, but also warmer and bulkier.

As a shopping shortcut, approximately 140–170 GSM can be treated as lightweight, 180–220 GSM as midweight and 230 GSM or above as heavyweight. These are not official universal categories. Knit, yarn, washing and finishing can make two shirts with similar weight feel very different.

3. What climate and routine will the shirt face?

A heavy tee may photograph beautifully but become the shirt you avoid during a humid Toronto summer or a hot trip through the southern United States. A light tee may be ideal for layering and travel but feel less substantial than you expected.

Consider where you will actually wear it: commuting, working indoors, walking outside, going to shows, exercising, layering or staying home.

4. Is the tee supporting the outfit or delivering the message?

A plain black, white, navy or gray tee often acts as a supporting piece. A graphic tee can be the emotional center of the outfit. Neither role is superior, but they lead to different buying decisions.

If the message is the reason you want the shirt, judge the blank by whether it presents the artwork comfortably and reliably. If the fabric and silhouette are the main attraction, a plain premium or heavyweight tee may offer more value.

5. What does “worth the price” mean to you?

Price can pay for fabric, construction, labor, design, printing, small production runs, shipping, retail overhead or brand status. It is not a direct measurement of durability or personal value.

Before buying, finish this sentence:

“This shirt is worth it to me because ______.”

If the answer is only “people online say it is the best,” keep looking.

Gildan 64000 review: is it good enough?

Yes—for the right customer and the right job.

The official name is the Gildan Softstyle Adult T-Shirt, style G64000. Solid colors use ring-spun cotton; fiber composition differs for Sport Grey, Antique and heather colors. Gildan describes it as a modern-classic fit with taped neck and shoulders, a tear-away label and a smooth surface suitable for direct-to-garment and screen printing.

Depending on the official or distributor specification, its fabric is listed around 4.3–4.5 oz/yd². In practical terms, it is a soft, lightweight everyday tee—not a heavyweight fashion blank.

Choose the Gildan 64000 if you want:

  • A relatively soft everyday shirt.
  • Lightweight fabric that is easy to layer.
  • A familiar, non-experimental silhouette.
  • A smooth base for printed artwork.
  • An accessible graphic tee rather than a luxury blank.

Do not choose it expecting:

  • A thick or rigid hand.
  • A deliberately cropped and boxy streetwear cut.
  • The washed character of a garment-dyed tee.
  • The opacity and structure of a heavyweight blank.
  • Exactly the same feel in every color, because fiber blends vary.

Why we use it

We use the Gildan 64000 as an everyday canvas for the design. Its job is to keep the printed idea wearable, soft and accessible. The shirt is most suitable when the message is the main reason for the purchase and the customer prefers a lighter modern-classic body.

That is different from claiming it is the best blank in the world. If your first requirement is heavyweight structure, the Gildan 64000 will not become that shirt simply because you like the design. Knowing that before ordering is better for you and for us.

Gildan 64000 vs Bella+Canvas 3001

The Gildan 64000 and Bella+Canvas 3001 compete for a similar job: soft, light, printable everyday tees.

Bella+Canvas lists the 3001 at 4.2 oz and describes it as combed and ring-spun cotton with side seams. Gildan describes the 64000 as a modern-classic, ring-spun tee; many versions use a tubular or seamless body rather than side seams.

Neither is a heavyweight option. The more useful distinction is how the specific finished garment measures and feels on your body. If choosing between two printed products, compare chest width, body length, sleeve shape, color composition, print quality and seller policies—not the blank’s brand name alone.

Starting recommendation: choose either when softness, lightness and printed artwork matter more than heavyweight structure. Use actual garment measurements to decide between sellers.

Gildan 64000 vs Comfort Colors 1717

These shirts solve different problems.

Comfort Colors describes the 1717 as a relaxed-fit, garment-dyed heavyweight tee. Its dye and washing process produces a softer, lived-in appearance, with pigment colors intended to retain a vintage character. It is pre-shrunk during garment dyeing and washing, although no cotton garment should be treated as dimensionally indestructible.

The Gildan 64000 is lighter, smoother and less structured. It is easier to layer and generally places less visual emphasis on the blank itself.

Choose Gildan 64000: for a lightweight everyday graphic tee.

Choose Comfort Colors 1717: for a relaxed heavyweight body and faded, vintage mood.

Do not describe one as objectively better. The correct choice depends on whether you want the artwork or the fabric silhouette to speak more loudly.

AS Colour Staple 5001: the more substantial regular-fit option

AS Colour lists its Staple 5001 as a 5.3 oz regular-fit tee made from combed cotton, with neck ribbing, side seams and double-needle hems. At the time of research, the company’s U.S. direct retail price was US$20 for a blank, before printing, tax or shipping.

This makes it a useful reference point for shoppers who want more substance than a 4.2–4.5 oz printable tee without moving fully into a relaxed garment-dyed heavyweight style.

Choose it when fabric and construction are central to the purchase. Remember that comparing a blank’s price with a finished independent graphic tee is not an apples-to-apples comparison: the finished product also includes artwork, printing, fulfillment and the seller’s operating costs.

Uniqlo: accessible retail basics

Uniqlo is useful as a baseline because U.S. and Canadian shoppers can often see its products in person. Its Supima Cotton tee emphasizes a smooth cotton feel, while the AIRism Cotton Oversized tee offers a more relaxed contemporary silhouette and a different fabric experience.

At the time of research, core Uniqlo tees were commonly listed around US$19.90–$24.90 in the United States and CA$19.90–$29.90 in Canada, with promotions and selected colors changing frequently.

Choose Uniqlo when you need an accessible plain basic and want the possibility of an in-store fitting. Choose an independent graphic tee when the artwork, message or relationship with the creator is part of what you value.

What should a good tee cost?

There is no single correct price, but there should be a reason for the difference.

  • Under US$20 / approximately under CA$25: useful for plain basics and experimenting with fit. Examine fabric composition, opacity and collar recovery.
  • US$20–$45 / approximately CA$25–$60: common territory for better blanks and independent printed tees. The printed Gildan 64000 designs on this site currently range from US$29.99 to US$36.99 for sizes S–5XL. Ask whether you are paying for fabric, artwork, printing or all three.
  • Above US$45 / CA$60: look for a difference you can name—fabric, cut, construction, production origin, traceability, limited artwork or a creator you intentionally support.

Calculate value after repeated wear, not only at checkout. A $50 tee worn every week can cost less per wear than three $15 shirts that remain in the drawer.

Tee recommendations by mood and personality

Fit answers “Will I wear this?” Mood answers “Why this one?”

Your mood or vibe Garment direction Design direction
Quiet but not invisible Regular or softly relaxed fit Small statement, restrained contrast or detail noticed at close range
Angry but controlled Clean body with deliberate structure Direct language without visual clutter
Guarded Dark or muted color; comfortable familiar fit Message that creates distance, boundary or emotional armor
Starting again Easy everyday tee that works with existing clothes Forward-looking phrase or design with personal meaning
Playful and detached Relaxed fit or unexpected color Irony, humor or an image that does not explain itself
Ready to be noticed Boxy or more visually substantial silhouette Larger graphic, strong contrast or unmistakable wording
Mentally exhausted Soft, low-effort everyday fit Simple design that feels reassuring rather than demanding
Minimal and polished Smooth regular fit No graphic, tonal artwork or very small placement

Do not buy a statement merely because it looks good on a product page. Ask whether you would still want to wear those words when another person reads them in public.

How to use product dimensions when choosing a size online

No article can guarantee fit without putting the shirt on your body. It can give you a better method than “I usually wear medium.”

Use a shirt you already own

  1. Choose a tee whose fit you already like.
  2. Lay it flat without stretching it.
  3. Measure chest width from armpit to armpit.
  4. Measure body length from the high point of the shoulder to the hem.
  5. If sleeve shape matters, measure sleeve length and opening.
  6. Compare those numbers with the product-dimension chart on the product page.

Body-size charts and product-dimension charts are not the same. Product dimensions describe the sewn shirt laid flat; adding a print does not materially change its width or length. Confirm which kind of chart you are reading.

For the Gildan Softstyle 64000, the listed flat width runs from 18 inches for S to 32 inches for 5XL, while length runs from 28 to 35 inches. A flat width is not a body circumference: an 18-inch shirt width is approximately 36 inches around the garment before ease and manufacturing tolerance are considered.

Account for tolerance

Mass-produced and print-on-demand garments can have normal manufacturing variation. A measurement chart is a strong estimate, not a promise that every physical shirt is identical to the millimeter.

Do not use sizing up as a substitute for a boxy pattern

One size larger adds width, but usually adds length too. If your ideal shirt has dropped shoulders, longer sleeves and a shorter body, choose a product designed with those proportions.

Look for useful product evidence

A useful online product page should show:

  • The exact shirt model.
  • Product dimensions.
  • Model height and worn size where possible.
  • Whether the photo shows true size or deliberate sizing up.
  • Color-specific fiber composition.
  • Care instructions and return/replacement policy.

Publishing these details is part of helping the customer—not an optional technical footnote.

What to expect after washing

In my own wearing and washing, I have not noticed a meaningful change in the shirt’s fit or feel so far. That first-hand observation is useful, but it should not be turned into a guarantee that no Gildan 64000 will ever shrink.

Published experiences are mixed. One independent test washed and dried two samples twice. Its black sample lost approximately 3.8% of its body length, while its white sample lost 10.4%; sleeve length decreased by approximately 8–9% in both. The reviewer acknowledged that two shirts are far too small a sample for a universal conclusion, and the large difference between colors suggests that batch, color and care conditions may matter.

The practical advice is straightforward: wash cold with similar colors, tumble-dry on low, avoid bleach and use low heat if ironing. Following the care instructions reduces risk, but cotton garments and production batches can still vary.

When this printed tee is suitable

A printed tee using the Gildan 64000 is a reasonable choice when:

  • You prefer a soft, lightweight everyday shirt.
  • You are comfortable with a modern-classic rather than boxy heavyweight fit.
  • The graphic or message is the main reason you want the product.
  • You have compared the garment measurements with a shirt you own.
  • You want an independent design rather than a plain retail basic.
  • The current US$29.99–$36.99 price for sizes S–5XL fits your budget.

It may not be the right purchase when:

  • Heavyweight fabric is your first requirement.
  • You want a deliberately cropped, wide streetwear silhouette.
  • You need to try the garment in person before deciding.
  • You like the product photo but do not identify with the message.

We would rather make that distinction clear before you buy.

The final recommendation

Choose the garment first by fit, fabric, climate and budget. Then choose the design by mood, identity and what you are willing to express in public.

If you want a smooth plain basic, Uniqlo may solve the problem. If you want relaxed heavyweight vintage character, start with Comfort Colors. If you want a more substantial regular blank, consider AS Colour. If you want a soft, lightweight graphic tee where the message carries the personality, the Gildan 64000 may be exactly enough.

The best recommendation is not the shirt that wins every category. It is the one whose strengths match what you actually need.

If a soft everyday fit and a message with a point of view sound right for you, explore the available designs after checking the product dimensions. If you need a heavyweight or deliberately boxy shirt, use the alternatives above.
